Customers of Farm Credit Mid-America are also owners of our cooperative, which provides benefits and values you won’t find at most other lenders.

The first modern cooperative was founded in 1844 in Rochdale, England with seven basic principles. Cooperatives around the world—including Associations belonging to the Farm Credit System—still follow these cooperative principles today.

  1. Voluntary Open Membership

Farm Credit Mid-America is a voluntary organization, open to all people eligible to use our loans and services and willing to accept the responsibilities of membership, without gender, social, racial, political or religious discrimination.
  2. Democratic Member Control

We are a democratic organization controlled by our members - eligible customers who have loans with our cooperative. These customer-owners participate in electing our Board of Directors, who set policies and make decisions about our business.
  3. Members’ Economic Participation

Customer-owners contribute equally to, and democratically control, the capital of Farm Credit Mid-America. Our customer-owners benefit through our Patronage program, which has returned more than $1.25 billion back in our customers' wallets over the past 8 years.
  4. Autonomy & Independence

Farm Credit Mid-America is an autonomous, self-help organization controlled by our customer-owners. If we enter into an agreement with another organization, we do so based on the terms that ensure democratic control by our members and the autonomy of our cooperative.
  5. Education, Training & Information

We provide education and training for our customer-owners, Board of Directors and team members so that all can contribute effectively to the cooperative.
  6. Cooperation Among Cooperatives

Farm Credit Mid-America serves our members by working with other cooperatives at the local, regional and national levels.
  7. Concern For the Community

While we focus on our customer-owners’ needs, we know that they can’t do it without their communities. That’s why we are committed to making an impact in every county we serve.
