Voting customers of Farm Credit Mid-America, a $25-billion financial services cooperative serving farmers, agribusinesses and rural residents in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee, have elected two incumbents and one new grower and producers to the Association’s Board of Directors:
- Kaye Whitehead, Muncie, Ind.
- John Kuegel Jr. Owensboro, Ky.
- Jason Moore, Paris, Tenn.
The Association Board of Directors comprises 14 members – 12-stockholder elected and two appointed/outside. Farm Credit Mid-America directors are nominated for positions state-by-state within the Association’s four-state territory. Customers with voting stock are eligible to vote – customers purchase voting stock at the time of their loan origination.
Voting began May 7 and closed June 4.
The Board sets policy and provides overall direction to the Association’s leadership, and this year, three directors’ terms were expiring, one seat each in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Each director is elected to serve a four-year term on the Board.
Director positions were open in only three of Farm Credit Mid-America’s served states this year, and the Association sent an information packet with detailed instructions, candidate information and ballots to eligible voting customers.
The ballot was created, printed and mailed by a third party vendor, which also gathered, tabulated and reported on the election outcome. Customers cast votes online and by paper ballot.
“During these uncertain times, it’s more important than ever to have strong, knowledgeable leaders on our Board of Directors,” said Bill Johnson, President and CEO of Farm Credit Mid-America. “Men and women who understand the value and importance of farming and helping feed their families and neighbors. But who also understand the business and the challenges farmers face with weather, prices, trade and policy.
“We look forward to working with the board to continue to be there for our customers and to provide them exceptional service, and to keep the association strong.”
Whitehead and her family run a family farming operation, raising corn, soybeans, wheat, hay and straw and contract grow pigs from weaning to finish. Kuegel owns and manages an operation raising corn, soybeans, wheat, alfalfa and grass hay. He is also the third generation to operate the dairy, with a herd currently consisting of 30 cows and 140 heifers. Moore raises row crops, registered and commercial Angus cattle, freezer beef and hay on over 300 acres. He is also involved with his family’s 1,200 acre row crop operation.
Customers also voted on the Nominating Committee by state. The 20-member committee – five from each state – selects candidates for both the Board of Directors and Nominating Committee. Members of the 2021 Nominating Committee are:
